Hardwood plank flooring in a Denver-area home

Hardwood flooring, installed or refinished

Real wood is the floor people still ask for by name, and it is the one that punishes a rushed job. Diego installs solid and engineered hardwood with the time built in for the wood to acclimate and the subfloor to be flat, and he refinishes existing hardwood that is worth saving.

What's included

  • Old flooring removed and hauled away

  • Subfloor leveled, cleaned, and checked for moisture

  • Wood delivered early and acclimated in the house before installation

  • Planks nailed, stapled, or glued per the product spec, with proper expansion gaps at the walls

  • Transitions and reducers at doorways

  • Baseboards and shoe molding reinstalled or replaced, caulked, ready for paint

Solid or engineered?

One piece of wood, top to bottom. It can be refinished many times over its life. It goes above grade over a wood subfloor, and it moves more with the seasons.

Solid hardwood

Real wood veneer over a plywood core. It refinishes once or twice depending on the veneer. It goes anywhere, including basements and over concrete, and it is more stable, which makes it a good fit for Denver.

Engineered hardwood

Have hardwood under the carpet, or a floor that is scratched and dull? The old finish comes off, dents and gaps get addressed, and a new stain and finish go on. It costs a fraction of a new floor and is often the right call in older Denver, Lakewood, and Littleton homes.

Good to know

Colorado air is dry most of the year, and wood that goes down straight off the truck can shrink over the first winter and leave gaps between the boards. How much acclimation a floor needs depends on the product: solid hardwood usually needs several days in the house, engineered is more stable and often needs less, and the manufacturer spec is the rule.

Why does acclimation matter in Denver?

1

Acclimation first if the product calls for it, then the install, usually two to five days for a main level, then baseboards.

How long does it take?

2

Prefinished hardwood, yes, as soon as the install is done. Site-finished floors need curing time, and the quote will say how long.

Can I walk on it right away?

Does it work with a new paint job?

Floors first, then baseboards, then paint. Diego does all three, so the order takes care of itself.
